The Torp TM50 Speed is the TM50 built for revs and top speed: 55 kW peak power, 13,000 rpm, KV 97 and 24 kW continuous. It is the sister unit to the TM50 Pro, differing only in its winding — less torque, more at the top.

What it changes

  • 13,000 rpm instead of 11,000. Two thousand revs higher than the Pro. Where the Pro starts running out, the Speed is still pulling — that is the difference you feel on a long straight and on tarmac.
  • KV 97 instead of 88. A faster winding, which means more revs from the same voltage. In practice: a higher top speed on the same pack.
  • 24 kW of continuous power. Exactly the same as the Pro. The Speed is not a weaker motor — it is a differently tuned one.
  • 1024 encoder, expandable to 4096. More accurate rotor position reading than Hall sensors — smoother running and better behaviour pulling away.

Fits

  • Bike: Sur-Ron Ultra Bee
  • Controller: the Torp TC1000 only — generations 1.0 and 2.0
  • Sensor: encoder (1024, expandable to 4096)
  • Will not work with: the stock Ultra Bee controller or controllers from other makers

Worth knowing before you buy

  • The Speed is the choice for tarmac and long straights. If you ride technical ground, climbs and tight forest sections, take the TM50 Pro. There it is low-down torque that counts, and the Speed has 13 Nm less of it. With a supermoto conversion the balance flips.
  • Without a TC1000 this motor is useless. It is not a replacement that bolts onto the factory electronics. If you do not have a TC1000 yet, count both parts together.
  • A chain instead of the belt voids the warranty. Torp explicitly excludes from the two-year warranty any damage caused by running a chain drive in place of the factory belt. If you have, or are planning, a chain conversion — such as the UltraDrive Warp 9 — you have to accept that knowingly. We say it plainly because we sell both products and we would rather you knew before you buy than at the point of a claim.
  • The battery has to keep up. 55 kW is the motor's own rating. Up to 50 kW goes through a TC1000 2.0 at 80 V, and the stock Ultra Bee pack will deliver considerably less.
  • 14.2 kg. The motor weighs what it weighs and sits low in the frame. After fitting it is worth going over your suspension settings.
  • Type approval. Changing the motor changes the vehicle's parameters. If you ride on public roads, check what that means for your registration.

Questions people actually ask

Speed or Pro?
Put simply: the Pro accelerates, the Speed goes. The Pro has 102 Nm and 11,000 rpm, the Speed 89 Nm and 13,000 rpm. On technical ground, over roots and on climbs the Pro wins. On tarmac, in supermoto and anywhere top speed counts — the Speed. Both have identical continuous power and cost the same with us, so you are choosing character, not a price bracket.

Is the Speed weaker?
Not in continuous power — both make 24 kW. At peak the Speed has 55 kW against the Pro's 58 kW, a difference within measurement error on a real bike. The real difference is in the character, not the number of kilowatts.

What will I actually get?
Up to 50 kW goes through a TC1000 2.0 at 80 V, and that is the figure Torp's own configurator gives. On the stock Ultra Bee pack it will be noticeably less — the battery is the bottleneck.

I have a chain conversion. What about the warranty?
Torp excludes from the warranty any damage resulting from running a chain instead of the belt. The motor will work, but in the event of a fault the manufacturer may refuse to repair it. That is your decision — we just want you to make it before you buy.
